Tours and Safaris with STEP Africa
Tanzania is not only one of the safest, but without a doubt one of the most beautiful countries in Africa! In addition to our volunteer programs, we organize selected group safaris, mountain tours and excursions in cooperation with experienced tour operators and thus offer you the opportunity to get to know the breathtaking nature and wildlife of Tanzania.
STEP Africa takes pride in the fact that all tours and safaris we arrange are carefully planned and carried out. It is important to us to offer you high quality and fair prices. All of our tours can be booked individually or in combination with our volunteer programs! You can find more information about our offers below.
“BEST OF TANZANIA” – SAFARI (4 Days / 3 Nights in the African Bush)
Our longest group safari on offer not only takes you into the endless plains of the Serengeti National Park, famous for the annual migration of huge herds of wildebeest and zebra. You will also explore the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010 and one of the most important areas for the protection of Africa’s last black rhinos. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area combines the interests of the traditional Maasai tribe living there with the protection of wild and endangered animal and plant species and is a very special place for this! Tarangire National Park, known for its many elephant families that are settled there, is also on the itinerary.
“Rafiki” – SAFARI (2 DAYS / 1 Night on Safari)
Our “Rafiki” Safari is a cheaper alternative to our “Best-of” Tour because it does not lead to the Serengeti. Here, additional costs for park fees and a longer travel distance are saved and the nights are spend outside the parks instead of within. The safari is nonetheless a great adventure. You spend 2 days on safari and visit the Tarangire National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater. Overnight in tents near the Ngorongoro Crater. You will discover two very different and unique landscapes and ecosystems.
Moshi – Weekend Trip Hot Springs & Materuni Waterfalls (Kilimanjaro)
A perfect trip to relax! Our Moshi tour starts with a visit to the hot springs in Chemka. The lukewarm and beautifully clear water invites you to swim and relax. In the evening you’ll reach the hotel in Moshi from where you can enjoy the view of Mt. Kilimanjaro on clear days (be prepared for an early morning wake-up!). Day 2 begins with a trek along the slopes of Kilimanjaro down to the Materuni waterfalls. In the immediate vicinity you visit a traditional coffee plantation and can prepare your own coffee – fresh from the field.
The Moshi-Tour costs $150 per Person, a Day Trip to the Hot Springs costs $35 per Person.
Visit to A traditional Maasai Village
On selected Saturdays we organize tours to the Maasai village of Monduli Juu. Our guide was born and grew up in Monduli himself and can therefore answer all your questions about traditional Maasai life. You will drive by Daladala (public minibus) towards the Maasai land and get to know life in a typical Maasai Boma first hand. You will also visit the weekly market where Maasai from all surrounding villages offer cattle and several other goods.
The Maasai Tour costs $45 per person.
Ride through zebra and wildebeest herds
Dolly Estate is a huge private area not far from Arusha where zebras, wildebeests, antelopes and other wild animals roam freely. Here you have the opportunity to spend an unforgettable morning or afternoon on horseback. The horses are incredibly well behaved and the rides are based on the knowledge of the rider. This tour is therefore recommended for both riding professionals and beginners.
The ride costs $75 per Person.
Mount Kilimanjaro
“AS FAR AS THE WHOLE WORLD, LARGE, HIGH AND INCREDIBLY WHITE IN THE SHINE OF THE SUN” (ERNEST HEMINGWAY)
The famous mountain Kilimanjaro actually refers to the entire mountain range in the national park of the same name. The massif consists of a total of three extinct volcanoes Shira (3,962 m), Mawenzi (5,140 m) and Kibo (Swahili “the light”), which at 5,895 m is the highest point in Africa and the destination of your trek The Kilimanjaro National Park covers an area of 753 km² and is located on the outskirts of the city of Moshi.
From here your mountain guide leads you to the foot of the mountain, where your porters are already waiting for you. A strenuous climb is ahead of you, but the reward will be a breathtaking sunrise over Africa from Uhuru Peak (“the freedom summit”). A climb is possible all year round and is also possible for mountain beginners.
We currently offer the ascent via the Machame Route as well as via the Marangu Route. Please contact us directly if you are interested!
Mount MEru
Mt. Meru is the second highest mountain in Tanzania and towers over
the city of Arusha from almost every angle. The stratovolcano is
considered the perfect acclimatization for a Kilimanjaro climb and can
be climbed in 3-4 days. Meru is the heart of the Arusha National Park
and the first day tour leads through the plains and forest slopes, which
are home to the park’s numerous wildlife. The view from the summit is
breathtakingly beautiful – with the best view of Kilimanjaro in the
distance. Many of our volunteers choose to climb Meru because during
their time in Arusha it has become “their” mountain that you can see
and admire every day. For more information on prices and group tours, please contact us directly!
